In this final boot camp episode, I share three quick techniques to help equestrians feel more confident and calm while riding. These methods are perfect for managing intrusive thoughts, anticipatory nerves and negative feelings:
-
Technique 1: The Power of "Stop"
- Interrupt negative thoughts and feelings by saying "stop" firmly and repeatedly.
-
Technique 2:
- Instead of focusing on the start of your ride, visualise yourself 15 minutes after the ride, feeling accomplished and relaxed. This helps reduce anticipatory nerves and the fear of becoming frightened.
-
Technique 3: Peripheral Vision (Hakalau)
- Start by practising looking upwards and expanding your vision to a wide field. Keep your vision wide as you bring your eques to eye-level and move your head. This technique helps calm your mind while maintaining alertness, improving focus and communication with your horse.
Bonus:
- Consistent practice is key to making these techniques effective.
